Apparently it wasa a favourite of the previous owner hence why we have so much of it. But since he has left no one else uses it and the last patient who was on it was put to sleep a while ago. There doesn't seem any point in starting an animal on something which is discontinued and so we wont be able to continue.

So if anyone wants some let me know and we can work something out.

I don't know if we have any patients who are still using it but its not something I would usually perscribe, not sure about the other vets in the practice. I'll find out if we need it for some reason. If not I can imagine they will be sitting on the shelf until they go out of date.

Nope; theophylline or vivitonin are the ones we have in practice; I've anecdotally found that theophylline seems to work better than vivits for me. Pimobendan's worked better for me than either, in heart cases.

[/quote]

I am amazed that anyone under 80 is even considering giving theophylline for treatment of a cardiac case. I can't say that Millophyline ever did any good other than to give the client something to make them think they're doing something for their pet. I can see theophylline may have some benefit as a broncho-dilator but then aren't we diagnosing upper respiratory disease and wouldn't it be more appropriate to use judicious doses of steroids and salbutomol inhalers? To say pimobendam is better at treating heart disease than theophylline is like suggesting flying is easier in an aeroplane than flapping your arms!

PS anyone still got a pot of those little brown HT&S tablets??!!

Re: millophyline tablets

I have a client absoultely swears by them, and despite scouring all neighbouring practices, could not find any at all. she sent off over £130 to an internet company who just robbed heer, and another then promised but admitted after the order that in reality that they could not.

2 great examples of internet pharmacies!

Re: millophyline tablets

I have managed to scrounge a few locally but may come back to kind offers above if said dog is still with us at that point. She is pretty ancient and has loads of problems, insurance has run out and so has money, plus owner does not want further diagnostics and the dog gets terribly stressed at any change of scene, or vets in her home, so would probably keel over if I tried anything more.

We thought we had reached the end of the road and I tried the little red pills as a last ditch either PTS or lets see if these help. I have to say the result was remarkable and the dog is old and pottery but happy (if she doesn't see too much of me!) I have repeatedly tried taking her off them and alternatives and the return of wheezing (not coughing) is very rapid.

So perhaps its not the most scientific of treatments, and I would not do it if I didn't think it would help, it seems to be keeping her going at minimal cost.

As the client was registering with us, I wasn't crazy keen on dispensing a drug at a homeopathic dose if not necessary. The client was slightly intimidating - you know, in a nice way - "and don't go telling me that [slightly aggressive looking] mammary lump isn't benign, because I've already told that other vet I'll have her struck off if it spreads...". I had to control myself when she advised me that the only way to get [ridiculously named pet] to take the tablet was to boil it up in water and then manually pick off that enteric coating, prior to baking it in the oven into a muffin; although it did give me enough confidence to suggest why don't we try without the tablets for a week and see if the cough returns...

Re: millophyline tablets

Actually, clicking back to the original request; what disease are you treating in your dog, plantagenet?
