What topics would you like to see covered in a wound healing and reconstruction course?
The VWHA is going to be running a small animal wound healing and reconstruction course in October this year. We are a Charity looking to help improve

Re: Veterinary Wound Healing Association - Small Animal Course

All good ideas, awesome!

Looking forward to making this happen! :-)

Can i ask (as co-organiser :-) with Stuart) we want to make this practical and educational so we're looking at 2 days. Before we book the date is it feasible for you all of you who have expressed an interest to attend 2 days back to back and if so would it be better to use up a friday and saturday,m or would during the week be ok?

look forward to your replies and making a date before the end of jan!

PS. Can certainly make sure there will be an independent session on dressings. :-) consider it done!

When is it too late to stitch? Does the 'golden period' still apply now that high pressure wound lavage systems are commerically available. What is the consensus on these systems. If the wound is well granulated and there is low tension at wound at the wound edges, for example flank or chest wounds in equine patients (ok they're not small animals), does suturing accelerate wound healing at all or is it a waste of time?

Topical haemostasis

When cautery fails and a tourniquet (esmarch) is unsuitable what works best and how to use it. Topical epinephrine/adrenaline? Collagen sponges? Topical thrombin?

Interactive case discussions are usually very helpful in applying the theory and helping one to make the links with cases 'back home'.

As ever, a reprise of dressing types and the sort of situations they are useful in would be helpful - perhaps tied into something about expected time-frames for wound management?

Skin reconstruction techniques.

Options when wounds 'stall' or are in awkward locations.

Managing owner expectations about cost/duration of treatment and the need for regular revisits...

Pain management/nutritional concerns during healing?

See you soon,
