Some mild sedation will be required - my usual preference is valium-ketamine to effect but I would be grateful if anyone

Re: Sedation for dog in CHF

I use morphine .5-1mg/kg I'm Plus midazolam .25mg/kg iv 30 minutes later.
Mike Martin has a factsheet on here with sedative protocols for dogs with CHF.

I have to confess to half dose Domitor and Torb in heart dogs and get them reversed and woken up as soon as done. I'm more worried adding a potent vasodillator to a dog already on two blood pressure lowering drugs!

Re: Sedation for dog in CHF

I generally use ACP/butorphenol also (I tend to go light on the ACP and heavy on the butorphanol), though you must remember the safest protocol is the one you are most used to and most comfortable with - not necessarily the one which is safest on paper.
