Does anyone else use it and can anyone tell me why it would work?

Maybe the patella only locked when the mare came into season and splayed her hindlegs.

Re: Estrumate for locking patellae?
My only hypothesis is that the hormones associated with the following oestrus cause some ligament relaxation. Apparantly girls who swim at a competitive level shouldn't swim breast stroke too much as it can affect their knees during puberty for similar reasons. Not sure how much or how true it is but it is something I was told in those hormone lectures.
Are you thinking of 'relaxin'? That's produced by the CL if I remember correctly so the prostaglandin would remove the source?!

Don't be too afraid of having a go at a medial patella ligament desmotomy - I did one standing under sedation on a horse where the owner had no money, did ok until the other knee went. I know they are out of fashion but the local referral centre said if it was that or shoot it to give it a go.
