Yeah.................. fair comments. I think "lasting" was my important word.

Hmm, interesting - I would take a completely contrary view. I feel instillation of abs into the sac is likely to be more effective than anything given systemically. I tend to think the wall of the sac possibly acts as a barrier to penetration of systemic drugs ( as with a walled-off abscess). Would make a great little research project to measure ab levels inside the anal sac following different routes of administration. Wonder if anyone has done that yet .... I bet someone has !

Personally I use any of the poly-pharm ear preps ( I also used to like Panolog, as it had a nice sized nozzle). If you recheck a week later there is always plenty of the ointment still in the sac, so must be doing some good.

Re: anal sacculitis in cats

[quote user="Evelyn Barbour-Hill"]

I've never felt the need to instil anything in a cat. I have tried a number of things in dogs and Panolog was quite useful but in my experience nothing did any lasting good. Systemic treatment or excision are what I would use.

What bearing would "the cascade" have on this? Is there something licensed for instillation into the anal sacs of cats? Does it work? Why would anybody care?
