So Sorry for your loss. You should take confort in the fact that you went to such extra-ordinary lengths to find the information to save her...and, perhaps this experience may help Yaser save more lives in the future.

Unfortunately, in the end, sometimes all we can do is love them enough to let them go.

Really sorry to hear the bad news Anglea - my condolences to you. You did everything you could to help her and you can draw a lot of comfort both from that and from the fact that ultimately you eased her suffering.

Thank you so much to all that helped me try to save my Jessie. I know I did all I could - given the circumstances and resources available to me here. My Jess is a peace in the garden and the house is just not the same without her little face.

Yaser checked her stomach, intestines and bowel and internal organs. Apart from the liver being slightly englarged, there was nothing - no blockage! We put Jess to sleep under the anaesthetic. Yaser then carried out a post mortem and could find absolutely nothing at all. Its just a complete mystery and Im at a loss and will always wonder what happened to her. I dont suppose I will ever know and that is so difficult.

Two days ago, I brougtt a puppy home that was on the streets and hit by a car. Two broken legs which Yaser has repaired and is now recovering at home with me and the gang. Its something to put my energy into and try not to beat myself up over the events of the last few weeks. My Jess would have mothered this little one, as she always did. Im working with TAG (Turkish Animal Group) helping the animals and finding homes for them.

I feel so indebted to all of you for helping me when I had nowhere to turn!

Angela I'm so sorry. I'm sure you are devastated that all your efforts have not resulted in a different outcome. But I hope that you can take some comfort in knowing that poor Jessie is not suffering any more.

You have done so much to try and help her , finally the only thing you could do was to let her go and be at peace. At least she had that option, having watched family members and friends suffer and eventually die in agony, or drown in their own fluids I think the medical profession have it all wrong and we have it right!

Thank you all for your wishes. My Jessie is showing signs of disorientation this morning and wont eat a thing! When I opened the door for the other animals this mornng, she took herself out into the garden and laid on the cold patio tiles and wont come back in. Ive wrapped her in blankets until its time to go to the clinic. Dont want to force her into the house and stress her any more. She is constantly coughing up a white foam. I cant keep her going like this another day, she is losing this fight.

Today is the day! I am going wih the op and then PTS if nothing can be found. I woke at 6am this morning and feel sick with worry. I have hopefully enlisted the help of another vet, Halil. He and Yaser will do the op today. Im just hoping that Halil doesnt get an emergency in today so that he is free to help. Neither Yaser nor Halil have done this op before and they are both nervous. Im at the end of the road, and this is my last, last chance.

Im not sure what time the op will take place, but I will post from the clinic as soon as I have any news. I pray that my Jessie will live. Thank you for all your support.

Anaesthetise dog, perform exploratory laparotomy. Best chance of a diagnosis, possible chance of a cure [foreign body, intussception] and if nothing treatable euthanase under anaesthetic.

If you are going to put her to sleep anyway you have NOTHING to loose.

She sits, eating her food with an X-ray machine on one side and a plate on the other side. If done like this it doesn't have to be stressful, although it is a pain getting everything lined up and getting the film distance from the machine correct. Mark, you will never know how indebted I feel to all of you that have tried to help me save Jessie. Im just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Had I been in the UK, Im sure that Jessie would have been diagnosed and treated. If I could get her out of here I would, but as you know, there is quarantine in the UK. I wondered if there was a specialist in Bulgaria or France, but without recommendation, Im not sure I would trust them.

Thank you Larence. She was not sedated because of her phneumonia. I was with her during every x ray. I will ask them in the morning if they will email them to me, but they havent even got back to me regarding the MR scan that they sent me for. Yaser knows one of the students there, so maybe he can get him to do it asap in the morning.

We could get barium but I dont think I can put her through more x rays without anaesthetic. The fear on her face the last time will haunt me forever. It was just horrendous.

I'm afraid that without a diagnosis, all I was offering was supportive care for the secondary illness. If you do put her to sleep, please do a post mortem - after all this talk of megaesophagus and foreign bodies, it might just turn out she had a pancreatic cancer. (thinking of things that can cause severe vomiting and such severe weight loss and maldigestion.)

If they won't send the X-rays (in the UK you technically pay for the taking and interpretation of the X-rays, you don't actually own the plates) they may be willing to email you some photos of them. It would also be worth asking whether she was sedated when the X-rays were taken as that will relax the oesophagus giving a false impression of megaoesophagus in a healthy dog.

You can perform barium X-rays yourself quite easily. It's not difficult and barium is really cheap to buy as powder. Alternatively you could get some from a local hospital
