I have read through the forums and see that I am not alone in prescribing oral buprenorphine.
I have three worries / questions.
1. As a schedule 3 drug which should be locked away is it fine to supply buprenorphine to members of the public

Re: Supply of Buprenorphine to clients

[quote user="salome2001"]sorry about the confusing formatting of that last post, I think this practice's computer is missing some fancy programme that allows me to use the cool smilies- and format correctly (?)

I guess it's fine as long as they're not a generic ;)

I used to vet the guard dogs for an RAF base and one of my predecessors had dispensed a huge vat of Kaolin and Morphine to be used 'as required'. The Guard Dog team did a roaring trade in hangover cures and were very put out when I explained to them that I couldn't get them it anymore.

On a slightly different note I gave my daughter some SAMe capsules as I was so worried her student drinking habits were pickling her liver (as its a GSL product there should be no repercussions here) but her friends quickly discovered that it was an excellent hangover cure and I could have supplied the entire student population of Cambridge if I'd wanted but thought that might be a bit dodgy! On the subject of the RAF Police, I also used to be vet to a base and was given a pass so I could gain free access to the officer's mess and can confirm that the prices there were probably conducive to more than occasionally over-imbibing the alcoholic beverage.

Re: Supply of Buprenorphine to clients

[quote user="Michael Woodhouse"]

It's a funny old world - all the storage rules etc that apply to us don't apply once the product is dispensed! My grandma used to have a good supply of oral morphine at home prescribed by the doctor. They can keep it in the bathroom cabinet, we have to keep it locked up!

I'm sure with controlled drugs it is not recommend to supply more than one month's supply at once.
