There seem to be a million different free DICOM viewers. Many look far more complicated than I require (with my limited brainpower

Re: DICOM viewers

Thanks a lot - the santesoft is good once the unnecessary boxes are cleared. So far not been able to view full screen - must keep trying. Going to give Clear Canvas a try!!

Photon Imaging suggested the JPEG route but it is difficult to manipulate the images with the software we have.

Will let you know which I settle on. It will be fun getting MRI scans and playing with those.

We love doing X-rays now - hated them before because of processing hassles. Worth every penny!!

Re: DICOM viewers

You should have a play with Clear Canvas Workstation it is an open source (free!) application aimed at medical professionals to view Dicom images. I have used it for digital rads and also MRI scans and found it to be good. You have to register on the site to download it but I'm pleased with what it can do so far.

Hope that helps,

Its all mine!!

The dicom files are copied onto a memory stick at the moment and I just plug it in.

The networking is not a problem now but there was no wiring in place when the system arrived but the computer in question is not networked anyway other than wireless to the internet.

Re: DICOM viewers

Sounds like a wireless network would be a simple and easy solution to connecting the computers; you could then install viewer software on your 'office' computer.

Or install some version of VNC software to use the Fuji software remotely; however this will stop anyone locally using the Fuji machine.

I'd assumed that when a digital system is installed it would be set up so all images are available from any computer in the building, and ideally from within the Practice Management System?

Re: DICOM viewers

Or of course you could save the images as jpegs, then look at the jpegs on your favourite computer and manipulate them with Photoshop.

Or, if your favourite viewing spot is not too far away as the crow flies, put a monitor there with a long cable to the dedicated computer and either a wireless mouse or a very long USB cable.

Re: DICOM viewers

This is not really a solution but I can't resist sticking my oar in.

If you are Mac then look at Osirix.

If you are Windows I can't help you that much but here are some suggestions:

1. Could you get networked?

2. How are you going to get the dicoms from the dedicated computer to the one you want to use? My system has a facility for burning all a session's images to a CD, and when it does that it automatically adds a simple viewer (presumably so that you can then send the CD to anybody (as long as they have a Windows computer....... oh, the irony ) and they will be able to work with the images). If it can do that, why it can't just put the same on a flash drive I don't know, but there it is. OK, now if your system offers the same, you have no problem if you don't mind the tedious wait for the CD to burn.

Or, maybe you could do it just once and then copy the viewer from the CD to your favourite computer? Or, if it's copy-proof, maybe you could do it just once, then have the CD running while you look at any other dicoms you wish? Bit of a weird way of doing things but it could work.

3. This looks as if it ought to be simple: http://www.santesoft.com/dicom_viewer_free.html

Sorry if you've already tried that. I must say, if an application is any good, you ought to be able to ignore the advanced facilities and just use the bits you want. Maybe Windows is different.
