The data sheet still says "Chorulon has been used in cases of cryptorchidism in the dog prior to
castration (100-500 iu i.m. twice weekly for up to 6 weeks)."

Non-functional large ones appear as space-occupying lesions with a distended abdomen and vague signs of discomfort (lethargy, intestinal stasis, reduced appetite). Functional cysts tend to cause bilateral flank alopecia with occasional pruritus and breeding failure.

They are usually easily palpable but diagnosis can be confirmed ultrasonographically.

Re: Ovarian cysts in Guinea Pigs

You could ultrasound guided drainage to relieve the pressure on other organs if cysts are large, followed by GnRH agonists - Suprelorin (deslorelin) implants are being suggested as a longer-acting option - to prevent/slow recurrence.
I have a client who rescues Guinea Pigs and has 3 which are showing the clinical signs of ovarian cysts. She is not keen to spey them and was enquiring re medical treatment. I have read a few reports on the internet involving Chorulon and was wondering if anyone has experience with this and what the success is and protocol for use? Also could you use Receptal - I havent read any data regarding its use in Guinea Pigs?

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Hmmm...so what are the clinical signs of ovarian cysts in Guinea Pigs? I'm not sure I'd be confident to diagnose them in a bitch without imaging.

Re: Ovarian cysts in Guinea Pigs

Thanks, I have told her speying is the recommended treatment.
