Have today seen a 2.5 year old standard poodle who was completely normal until last night when he woke his owners at 3am.
Since then he has been unable to settle. In the consult he was continually on the go, pacing, and appearred unresponsive

Re: hyperactive dog
I'm currently testing it in my garden
That reminds me of something that happened to my late Patterdale terrier:

My dad sometimes comes over from holland and works in my garden for me. He drinks perculator coffee and swears by putting the 'prut' (thats what we call it, don't know the english word, its the coffee that is left in the machine after the drink has been made) on the garden. I can't even remember why and what the benefits are , but my Patterdale used to eat absolutely anything, and yes, he did eat the coffee from the garden. So Caffeine is one to remember, believe me, he was one hyped up little dog! Didn't lay down all evening. But as with most vets dogs he got nicely ignored and was fine the next day (he made it to 16yr so don't think it did him a lot of harm in the long run)

We saw sufficient that you could just about make a diagnosis on appearance, and then have a difficult conversation with the owner.
