I assume he's using Hills d/d as a novel diet
alergic test negatives
Remember diagnosis of atopy happens before doing intradermal/serology tests. Many normal dogs will give positive results on these tests, and some atopic dogs show up all negative - i.e. diagnosis of atopy with undeterminable allergens.

As a suggestion, on the basis of what you say (not all of which I quite follow), maybe a biopsy would shed some light on things?

Re: About Labradors dermatites

Adverse food reaction? You don't mention food trials. If relying on blood testing for allergic work up they can be misleading and about food in particular. I might be considering 6 - 8 weeks of hills as or purina ha diet
