I have a cat with an intestinal B cell lymphoma which I need to start on treatment. I usually use the COP protocols

Re: COP protocols

In the past I have used 50mg tabs and dosed around every 7-8 days to get it about right. I have 2 points of contact that I have found very helpful:

Feline Medicine - Martha Cannon at Oxford cat clinic - normally replies to emails very promptly - contact details on the website

Oncology - Tom Cave at Cave Referrals - very practical and Ive always found him very helpful and sensible and very knowledgable.

Both of these have always been very willing to help with advice despite the fact that a referral is not on the cards.

Re: COP protocols

Agree, you need to reduce the frequency of dosing of the cyclophosphamide, so from memory I usually work out how many mgs it needs in say 4 weeks, then work out the dosing interval to give this amount over that period, this may be 50mg every 14-21 days for example (which again from memory is what i did with the last case I treated.) Alternatively you may be able to get it in injectable form as a powder for reconstitution, and can give give the exact dose required but as you need a fresh vial for each injection it works out a lot more expensive. Worth speaking to a specialist if you are unsure, Langford feline clinicians are usually really helpful- you just need to send them a fax asking for some advice and they will normally call you back within24-48hrs. Don't have their fax number at hand but easy enough to find.

Re: COP protocols

Would reduce the frequency of cyclophos so that you give 50mg tablets less frequently, probably also give on a different week to the vincristine, though this may entail having the cat back if you're not happy about the owner cleanly pilling their cat.

You can get smaller size cyclophos made up, but when I looked it wasn't cheap - maybe worth speaking to your friendly local referral centre to see if they stock such smaller sizes.

Have previously swapped cyclophos for chlorambucil, which could be an option if 50mg cyclophos knocks it for 6 (used it in a dog with haemorrhagic cystitis after 1st dose of cyclophos)
