IMO walking not as bad as chasing balls or throwing Frisbee where the dog is rapidly accelerating, slowing, twisting turning. If you build things up gradually you&#39;ll be fine.</p> <p>Were mum and dad&#39;s hip&#39;s scored?</p> <p>Just enjoy the beastie <img src="https://www.vetsurgeon.org/emoticons/new/icon_biggrin.png" alt="Big grin" /></p><div style="clear:both;"></div>https://www.vetsurgeon.org/thread/19343?ContentTypeID=1Sat, 26 Jun 2010 17:37:26 GMT146601cc-3922-4be7-9974-7e1d4e45a66b:813180a0-ce24-4f91-a1b6-34b5eb85b007Jacquin Mitchell<p>I did 5 mins/ month once a day with my now 7 month old lurcher but as she got older I only counted the 5 mins where they were tearing about, not just mooching.</p> <p>I also joined a local dog training class- they took the pups from 8 weeks with a vaccination, so we did 2-3 training sessions each day, had a couple of games, fed her a lot of her food in treat balls, kongs, feeding cubes and gave chews as well.</p> <p>She still spent most of the day following kids around, stealing food and &nbsp;toys and twice a day turned the back yard into a racetrack for he version of the wall of death!</p> <p>jacq</p> <p>&nbsp;</p><div style="clear:both;"></div>https://www.vetsurgeon.org/thread/19342?ContentTypeID=1Sat, 26 Jun 2010 16:45:27 GMT146601cc-3922-4be7-9974-7e1d4e45a66b:2153215c-6335-4515-a16f-302ba46c12beCatherine Williams<p>I tend to work on the 5min per mth of age rule but I&#39;m not worried how often as long as they get a nap in between.&nbsp; I also say that a 15min walk may take 30min if you stop on a bench to watch traffic go by, talk to people etc.&nbsp; I tend to really encourage walking in different areas, even if that means drive to the area then do the walk.</p> <p>I really like interactive toys like stuffed kongs + lots of little training sessions to tire out the brain rather than just tiring out the body.&nbsp; love training the dog to wear his little brain out, did wonders for my spinoni when they were pups, still does now and my old boy is 10yrs now</p><div style="clear:both;"></div>
