1yr old ME Cocker
Friday walk, completely normal, went into barley fields off lead and developed LF lameness, progressed over 10mins to 10/10 lame and collapse. I saw it 36 hours later, can't remember the exact symptoms now as it was a long time ago but it was pretty poorly and there was no obvious bite wound or swelling, it did die though despite anti-venom and intensive care but PM exam showed necrotising pancreatitis and not much more so maybe the snake was a red herring

Re: Lameness and pyrexia?

Indeed Nix, couldn't find any punctures or local swelling on the limb...its a possibility I discussed with the O. I saw an adder bite in Devon once and the dog swelled up like a balloon so wasn't sure if it was an atypical case?

Thanks

Re: Lameness and pyrexia?

Sudden onset of progressive lameness whilst off lead in barley field and consequential immunological symptoms re facial swelling, behaviour changes, pain and pyrexia taking a few days to settle.....

...would consider adder bite if you're in an area that has them?
