Righty ho. I have a client with a dog that has EPI (GS of course) and she is perfectly fine and well controlled since she started the pancreatic enzyme powder but she absolutely HATES the taste of the powder.
Though the stomach does a reasonably good job of mixing things up.

Not sure if there's any work in dogs looking at % inactivation of pancreatic enzymes given as powder (or straight pancreas) within the stomach. Certainly in humans the move seems to be towards enteric coating of enzyme microspheres within capsules so that the enzymes survive well into the duodenum, and slow release formulations for extended activity,

Re: EPI treatment

You should be able to get pancreas as sweetbread either from an abbatoir or a good butcher. We have a couple of clients doing that.

Re: EPI treatment

I thought that the Tryplase capsules had to be opened and sprinkled onto food and not given whole?
She is very lucky! Most abbattoirs, definately the ones locally here, won't give/sell pancreas. They reckon there is a law that forbits them to do so, just as they not allowed to sell me any tripe either. Liver and heart is not so much of a problem.
I've heard of using fresh pig's pancreas but you need to use large quantities of it to be effective. I suspect anyone selling it online is selling a dried form that will conveniently presented as...a powder. Which is what you're using already.
