Not often needed, but I see very few rabbits. Usually give a single injection (pre-op or at initial consult). I have dispensed injectable antibiotics and anti-inflammatory for owners to inject. I think injectable Baytril seems to work better than the oral stuff even when syringed into the mouth, IMO.

I can't honestly think of a rabbit that I have ever wanted to put on long term NSAID.

I just use Carprofen (Norocarp) at same dose rate as everything else, 4mg/kg. Last time I looked in BSAVA formulary that was the dose.

I remember working this out the first time, and none of the other vets believed me! But I use the '1kg rabbit = 5kg dose' routinely now, I take it up or down a depending on the case. Certainly for fly strike I use the max 1kg:6kg dose.

It seems like a really high dose but my rabbit lecturers at Bristol assured me that this is the dose that rabbits need!

I've used twice the dog maintenance dose and had no problems.

I think I worked out the full dose as per the formulary then got scared and reduced it a bit, but I'm sure that would have been fine too, it just sounds scary compared to the dog dose!

We are using 0.2 - 0.6ml/kg (dog strength so 0.3 - 0.9mg/kg) bid for acute cases. Generally I will use the middle to lower end, especially for long term use. 0.3 - 0.4 ml/kg is my usual dose. Most exotics / rabbit vets will use that kind of dose level. 1 drop seems to be almost homeopathic.

i give them 3x the dog dose. so a 2kg rabbit gets a 6kg dog dose. i have also encountered the one drop per rabbit but i think that dose must be fairly homeopathic!

I use 0.6 mg/kg for rabbits which is what I have been recommended on CPD courses and by Bristol rabbit residents. I have not had any problems at this dose rate and have had some rabbits on it for months. I think it is the old body surface area vs wt issue as if you read the formulary you will notice that the recommended doses for rats and mice are 1 - 2 mg/kg
