This patient has previously suffered from constipation but now has had blocked bladder with no signs of crystals.

Re: Dysuria

Thanks everyone, I'm sorry about lack of info, as i said wasn't my case and cat didn't turn up to see me until 3 days later! Now no longer with us as neither constipation nor urethral/bladder spasm responding to any treatment. Azotaemia had disappeared probably due to regular cystocentesis. Thanks again.

Re: Dysuria

Check the level of hydration. Assuming it is not otherwise contraindicated I have found i/v fluids helpful especially if I cannot find any other obvious causes. Mild azotaemia may be important!!!

Re: Dysuria

You haven't given us much to go on. A lot of cats get constipation, how do you know this is 'neurological'? Do you mean spinal problems or local hyperaesthesia causing urethral spasm. For urethral spasm in flutd I find diazepam and glucocorticoids helpful following all the poking and prodding and general abuse of the urinary tract that occurs as a consequence. Have you dome any x-rays - spinal, bladder, pneumocystogram, what about urinalysis?

I need to check his bladder this evening for my colleague who is suspicious of a neurological problem amongst other things, especially since he's had chronic constipation over last few years. Will update when I've seen him. Thanks.

Re: Dysuria

Age, sex, breed?
