Righty ho, here goes.
I have inherited what looks like it cfould be an annoying case from a vets down south as the owners moved up to Scotland. From the history the dog (ME 9mo Springer Spaniel) has had, for the last

Re: Pseudomonas Balanitis?

i did once have a doctor bring in his dog for castration, and when asked if there were any problems he said not really, but he had noticed a greenish discharge from the prepuce but he'd swabbed it and the culture was negative. wonder what the lab (presumably a human one) made of that! Was tempted to point out that he might have a discharge too if he didn't wash so frequently but bit my tongue.

More relevant, would agree that a discharge alone would not concern me, but def reswab and see. May need some careful chat with the owners to help them realise this without maligning any previous vets!

Re: Pseudomonas Balanitis?

If the penis and prepuce are not inflamed, the dog is not bothered by it, and it is not causing a clinical problem, why are the owners so concerned?

I did have one dog once that had something similar, with the exception that it also had horrible purple plaque like lesions on its penis. The owner dutifully washed it twice daily with dilute hibiscrub and it went on a 6 week course of ampicillin and doxycycline I think.

It did get better but it still had a yellow discharge even after all that!
