I've also worked with a nurse in the past who's own dog was a CKCS who is epileptic, has mitral valve disease (obviously), has had left and right luxating patellas operated on, I think it had a TPLO on one side aswell, and has syringomyelia. You would think a qualified nurse would know better than to buy a Cavalier - but on the other hand I know several veterinary professionals who own Pugs - I guess there's no helping some people.

Re: Which case have you seen that has the most wrong with it?

[quote user="Clive Ansell"]

As I lifted her up out of the blanket she arrived in several loops of bowel slid out - I put her back into the blanket hoping the owners weren't squeamish. When we got her GA'd I found bowel amazingly intact (I did have another case just before this where the dog had managed a neat enterectomy) but lying subcut, tooth marks in the liver, ruptured diaphragm, two ribs completely detached and just sitting subcut, and an abdominal tear from costal arch to pelvis. All that was visible on the surface had been a smallish skin tear. In true cat fashion she also did amazingly well - although the owners did complain when she developed a small abscess on her leg where I'd missed a bite wound - and only paid the rest of the bill months later when she needed treament for something else

Re: Which case have you seen that has the most wrong with it?

[quote user="Jacquin Mitchell"]

On a similar note, I have a client with a cat which I think may have the most bits missing! She was spayed, which led to a kidney needing to be removed ( long story). Then got HBC and lost a leg. Then a few months later she arrived home minus 1/3rd of her tail- it didn't need suturing and healed well.

Seems that cats are "winning" this thread!

I had a cat in a RTA with:

Puncture wound to left inguinal region, penetrating in to the abdominal cavity with a mass of pulverised mesentery.

Fractured femoral neck requiring femoral head amputation.

Spleen torn in two.

Kidney floating free in the abomen.

Negligible free abdominal haemorrhage.

Plus some frayed claws of course!

He lived to a ripe old age.

Had a cat that had an emergency enucleation after damaging its eye in RTA. It also had damaged nerves to its tail, which had to be removed at a later date. Then later it got aortic thromboembolism and one hind leg became necrotic and had to be amputated. Poor cat got grumpier and grumpier with me over its remarkably long life span, which isnt surprising given every time I saw it I hacked another bit off it!
