Its hyperthyroidism has been so well controlled the T4 has dropped from 100 to 8. So it would be good to reduce the dose, but on checking the Formulary its says (page 49)

Re: Amusing comment in BSAVA Formulary

I have gone for 2 out of 3 days or eod dosing as well in these cases.
I have had a few cats now that have not reacted well to Felimazole; inappetence, anorexia, occasionally vomiting. Prior to Videlta, I used to change to Neomercazole which worked well.

Re: Amusing comment in BSAVA Formulary

you don't say if the cat is showing any clinical signs of hypothyroidism or carb toxicity.

I used to mess around with the doseage of hyper T4 cats if their results were below the reference range, but after a long discussion with the makers of Felimazole. they stated that it really is not necessary, as cats will quite happily tolerate being hypo throid effectively, without any adverse clincal effects.

the only proviso to this is if they start to show signs ov toxicity, facial pruritis, bradycardia etc.

then I would move to eod dosing.

But if the cat is clinically well, a T4 level of 8 nmol/L isn't really significant.

Re: Amusing comment in BSAVA Formulary

Surely, under the rules of the cascade, you can switch to generic carb?
we've seen a few 'too well controlled' cats on Vidalta. we've tried every ither day dosing as the only way of reducing the dose. seems to make for a happier cat, though i worry about the up/down effect this has on the thyroid level. other option being switch to felimazole.

Re: Amusing comment in BSAVA Formulary
In the absence of a 5mg tablets - how does one do this?
You could give it a negative amount of the 15mg tablet, thus reducing the dose with a positive dose of 10mg to 5mg.

Simples!
