It is showing periods of manic behaviour including running into walls and attacking its owners. The rest of the time it is a happy, friendly kitten.
The whole examination was normal

Re: Manic behaviour in a kitten

On further thoughts, not having the notes yet, I think it may have been a behaviour seen when they sleep a lot of the time due to 'stresses' such as other cats in the house of which they are not part of the social group which mean that at some time of the day they have to burn up a lot of energy in a small amount of time.I agree I also saw a cat which went on to have proper seizures start off being a bit manic.So...needs investigating to check for medical as opposed to behavioural causes

Re: Manic behaviour in a kitten

After listening to the 'free' webinar' cpd from Sarah Heath on cat behaviour on Tuesday maybe its just a quastion of the kitten sleeping a lot while the owners are out and then making up for lost time while they are there and it's getting attention and has companions.I think she mentioned manic attacking behaviour in the context of a cat that sleeps a lot of the time and then makes up for lost time in short bursts.See if you can email her/read one of her books????Join up for the rest of the course of lectures.

I may be missing something else wrong with it and so it needs checking over etc but it could be behavioural due to some kitten reason.Maybe that will help?

Re: Manic behaviour in a kitten

Sorry, nothing useful to add...I read the initial post and thought um, dunno. Just wanted to say that this type of thread is one of the reasons I like vetsurgeon.org...throwing up lots of good ideas.
He presented a stray at about 6 months old. He was manically agressive but initially assumed he was just feral. About 48hrs later he was found to have a blocked bladder. The catheter passed easily so I'm assuming urethral spasm. His urine was normal except for a few struvite crystals. After waking up he was a different kitten - playful, cuddly affectionate etc. However now he has been urinating normally for several weeks, and NAD on urinalysis, and is friendly and playful most of the time, but at least daily he has periods of frenzied aggression. He will only tolerate a few minutes of handling before he loses his rag completely and will savage anyone within range.

If this continues I'm considering treating him for urethral spasm. Is there any indication that your kitten could be in pain?

Re: Manic behaviour in a kitten

liver shunts cause serious aggression issues in cats. seen one very similar - has it got copper coloured irises by any chance

Re: Manic behaviour in a kitten

I've seen a cat have a seizure that involved running into walls. The epileptic cats I've seen mostly tend to be psychomotor rather than classic epileptiform seizures.
