Do you disolve the tablets and then apply with a swab? Never used on a dog, sounds like great idea and great fun!

[/quote]

Well, it does sound like fun, but actually liquid forms are what you want. I did try tablets once when for some reason they were all I could get, but it's a bit of a faff.

The swabby things are all pretty cheap and probably the handiest.

Or of course you could just use red food colouring.

Shows plaque up a bright red/purple. I tend to use them at discharge with dentals and show how clean the teeth are (beware missing bits during scaling and polishing as can prove very embarassing). Then at a 4 week post-dental check up we repeat the process to stress the need for brushing etc.

Re: Dental disclosing solution

Do you disolve the tablets and then apply with a swab? Work out at about 25p a swab which is cheap in comparison to the veterinary specific brands. Its easiest to set up a Henry Schien account under the human dentistry section than ordering the products through Dunlops. Delivery is nice and fast and they will bill on account.

Kruuse sell IC Plaque swabs. In fact they will probably give you some if you buy an instrument from them..... no harm in asking. Virbac sell First Sight disclosing swabs.

Re: Dental disclosing solution

mmmmm cant find a brand.. Annoyingly I can't remember a trade name for it.

We got out of the habit of using it for some reason, but it's great when nurses are rechecking dentals 5-7 days post treatment as they can show owners the lovely white shiny teeth then show them that plaques accumulated in a few days, reinforcing the need for regular homecare.

Re: Dental disclosing solution

I would if I knew what dental disclosure was =)

If it's antiplaque-type stuff to use you can use Vetaquadent (think it's from Virbac) however being mild chlorhex it smells and my dogs wont touch it!

Looking forward to hearing more about dental disclosure..=)
