Didn't urinate at all until today, but has been doing normally since first thing this morning! hooray!

wound looked pretty good considering, a little sticky around the sutures, which i think is to be expected, but seems to be functioning well.

poor thing is booked in for castration on friday, when i will also be having a thorough re-examination of the penis and hopefully doing nothing more! He's going to feel this is the worst week of his life!

Re: what happened here? unexplained penile trauma

i had to get the nurses to switch on the aircon in theatre as i was starting to feel a bit wobbly myself! male colleague popped his head raound the door, blanched and decided to leave me to it!

I'm not sure he could have got anything in there and not damaged the prepuce.

I agree it's an unlikely form of abuse, but the owners were concerned and i thought I'd sound out everyone here so i can reassure them it's unlikely and/or give them an alternative explanation!

I think cocking a leg up against a barbed wire fence is certainly possible. though i'm still not sure if he'd have had his penis fully extruded to do that. as I am certain he must have done to injure it like this.

my other thought was if perhaps he had been trying to mate someones bitch and they somehow injured him trying to get him off?

I really should just forget about it and stop getting my brain all muddled, but it's just one of those that bothers you!

Re: what happened here? unexplained penile trauma

Could it have run onto a narrow, sharp object (eg. stick) which entered the prepuce leaving it undamaged but then snagged on and lacerated the softer mucous membrane of the penis?

Sounds pretty unlikely as a form of animal abuse - I can think of easier ways.

I'm off for a sit down now, reading this thread is making my eyes water.

Cheers,

It managed to remove everything- prepuce, penis and all- but the owner hadn't noticed and brought him in because they had noticed 'a spot of blood' and didn't know where it came from!

he was still bleeding a little on discharge, but i don't think i could have done anything else to stop it - short of cautery which really wouldn't have been a good idea!!

the owners did question why i hadn't put a dressing on, until i pointed out that he would need to be able to urinate!

Re: what happened here? unexplained penile trauma

I have seen a similar injury though not quite so extensive - the dog did it cocking it's leg against a barbed wire fence.
