VPIS is concerned that, as there is no other oral Vitamin K 1 preparation

Re: Konakion tablets availability

I'll try that.
All you need to do is register a vet at your practice with the VMD - you can look online. once you have done this you need to obtain a special import certificate and send this to your vet supplier. in our case, centaur.

on the vmd website, go to the far right hand side on the top bar and click on 'online services' and then 'special import site' then pick 'special import certificate' the rest is straightforward. then print and fax to centaur. the vitamin K is in a list of medicines available when you select france as the country of origin.

just a word of warning, you will need your vet number to do all this so if you dont know it (as i didnt) have a look in the rcvs directory.

i was very happy with the speed of the service, got it within 48hrs and are now fully stocked up for the next cat or dog that has a taste of those pesky blue pellets!

Christmas Eve and I was going to break for a fortnight. Had a lovely JRT who decided many weeks ago to eat some 3rd generatio nasty stuff intended for rats and the sort. Had been on konakion tablets for so many weeks and on that Eve I have the resulst for the couagulation test done 3 weeks after cessation of Tx. Ready to give the good news but Oops! PT time gone high again. Back on the tablets? Only 1 pot left and wholesaler cannot do anything about it. Phone local pharmacyst in the Village and found that there is are 2 injectable ones one they use in newborna, and the data sheet says it can be given orally, and the 10 mg one, that doesn't say anything about oral administration. Decided to order a lot of ampoules and a few days ago, back from my holiday, the dog had been taken the 10 mg ampoules orally and the PT time has gone down to normal!!

How long they take to produce would be critical - if it takes too long for individual practices to source direct then it may be worth seeing if the big wholesalers would keep some supplies in stock to distribute when required.
