At KRUUSE we offer the iM3 units, and they come in various models. If you would like some information on these, or trial one to see how it 'fits' with what you are looking for then please do not hesitate to contact me.

Re: Dental machines

Fibre-optic lighting on the highspeed is great, verging on the essential, for any sort of restorative preparation or indeed anything fine, but for the requirements of the original poster would be a waste of money. One assumes that he has a decent light of some sort.

In my opinion and experience venturi suction off the air unit is no use. The availability of suction is important, but suction should be done by the nurse who will be the other side of the table along with the anaesthetic machine. So you need a separate suction unit, and the anaesthetic trolley is a good place to keep it.

The iM3 scaler does not have a pedal.

Re: Dental machines

We have a air compressor driven system from Roots Dental which gives great service. Having the compressor enclosed does give a bit quieter running, but also makes keeping it clean easier. If you get a scaler separately (and suggest get a piezo one), make sure the supplier plumbs it in to the workstation so it uses the same water supply and foot pedal. Also you need to look after the machine (not too difficult) and get it serviced regularly. Not sure how useful venturi suction is unless you have three hands or a spare nurse. Fibre optic lighting sounds good but adds a fair cost.

Re: Dental machines

I too have worked in too many places with insufficient dental equipment. One of my first purchases when I established my practice was a decent dental machine. My nurse and I have taken great care of it and it is still going strong nearly 10 years later. I purchased it from Teknik. I don't know he make and model but it has more than paid for itself and I love it.

Re: Dental machines

Julain

I have provided finance solutions for a number of dental machines over the past couple of years through Roots Vet Dental Supplies, a family run company with a vast knowledge of veterinary dental.

I always keep in contact with clients to ensure the equipment we have funded meets the clients requirement and they are happy with the service, I am please to say that I have had no complaints from clients only praise for the service and equipment quality.

Re: Dental machines

Thanks all, I'll look into these, especially the IM3 as it is mentioned by a few.

Re: Dental machines

We purchased an IM3 machine around a year ago and have been very happy with it. I am still using our old scaler with it, and am trying to find an excuse to purchase the IM3 scaler which I believe is in a class of it's own. I did decide to spend a little extra getting a fibreoptic light on the high speed handpiece, and feel this was money well spent, as it's so much easier when you can see what you're drilling!

I have used roots dental services in the past, and can highly recommend them for servicing - very knowledgable and give honest, practical advice, although I have not tried their own machine.

Re: Dental machines

Fortunately, I was only there 2 weeks and did not need to do any dental work - a couple of cases were kicked to touch because they needed pre op antibiosis - thats my excuse and I'm sticking with it.

Re: Dental machines
For the scaler consider the iM3 - it is very different from all the others. Make sure no one is allowed to use it and/or maintain it without being taught how. For the air unit (one highspeed, one lowspeed, 3way syringe, nothing else) you should be all right with the bottom of the range from Kruuse, Burtons or Vet Inst, or explain what you want to the less well known Roots Vet Dental Supplies (www.vetdentalservices.com). The fewer gadgets, the less there is to go wrong. Again, don't let it get abused.

These machines need care and maintenance every time they are used.

Re: Dental machines
Simple question: who would recommend what? We have had a Cocoon for several years giving reliable service - more or less - but has latterly developed problems that are taking longer and longer to fix. Which machines are both functional and reliable? Note: I do not want something for filling and drilling as such, just a basic clean, polish and cutting descaler.

Thanks in advance.
We had a couple of non-compressor based units and found that they just weren't up to the job when it came to drilling and sectioning teeth and removing bone for extractions; the motors would burn out for a past-time. So we have invested in an iM3 unit which we've had for about a year or so and it's fantastic, makes dentals so much more easy, one of the best investments we've made in a long time. Like Ian's machine it costs a couple of grand (with their top end scaler) but is well worth it in time saved and reduced grief, particularly considering it is one of the biggest revenue generating pieces of kit in the practice.

Cheers,

The mobile is 6 years old and going strong, the high speed of the air drill is excellent for splitting teeth and a piezo scaler makes short work of the scaling. They cost £2500 ish but for us, cost per dental and in vastly reduced time over using micromotor's, makes them one of the best investments we have made.
