Applying a Quality Improvement Approach to Brachycephalic Dogs - VSA

VSA helps the public to make informed choices on veterinary care for their animals, to understand options that are available to them and to find out how to access veterinary specialist care through the referral process.

RE: Quality Improvements to Tackling Brachycephalic Dogs

I think you will find that is actually not true. The Veterinary Specialist Association lobbies the RCVS to stand by and defend their definitions of both the Advanced Practitioner and Specialists, we support contextualised care and the development of a Specialism in Primary Care for GP vets, and we want to help pet owners to find veterinary care that is what they are looking for as well as appropriate and affordable for their pet. We have also reported to the CMA investigation supporting the current structure of Advanced Practitioners and Specialists. This meeting is not about referral practices. This meeting is about the welfare and behaviour of brachycephalic dogs and how we can improve their experience in the clinical setting. Any clinical setting. Don't be defined by your prejudices.

RE: Quality Improvements to Tackling Brachycephalic Dogs

The fittest (and quietest) Frenchie in Scotland is one I did a tracheostomy in about 3 years ago after its BOAS turned into complete laryngeal collapse.

It turns out once Frenchies can truly breathe, they are actually a total riot. Makes me wish I could give them all one.

RE: Quality Improvements to Tackling Brachycephalic Dogs

Sounds like a good meeting. However, too often the Veterinary Specialists Association seems determined to drive all referrals to Specialists alone. Obviously, I won't be supporting them
