I recently saw an 18 month old male pet rat with a 24 hour history of haematuria. There was no fresh/ frank blood just blood tinged urine on the paper in the cage consistently every time he passes urine. No straining or obvious signs of pain

RE: Rat advice needed please!

Mark Rowland Actually no he's not poor guy. I've heard tail vein but wasn't sure if I needed to anaesthetise to take the bloods ?

RE: Rat advice needed please!

Hi

Some rads uga and bloods would be a good start. Would help to rule out liths vs pyelonephritis etc.

Would also allow a better US, look for dilated ureters.

You could also do a cyst and culture. Are you on some good analgesia?

Goodluck, Mark
