So just wondering what you all used- it's rare for me to do non- routine surgery, so I like to

RE: Suture materials - what do you use?

Thanks, that is really useful.

RE: Suture materials - what do you use?

www.vetsurgeon.org/.../5947-Covidien-Surgery-Flashcards-2.pdfthis might be useful

RE: Suture materials - what do you use?

Thank you! It was the reply to the first question in this article that concerned me - especially the fast degradation of pds in the stomach.
https://www.cliniciansbrief.com/article/wound-healing-surgery-suture-veterinary#take-the-quiz

I used to use a lot of vicryl but rarely use it anymore.

RE: Suture materials - what do you use?

Vicryl is my default go to for most things. Monocryl for closing viscera. PDS for closing ex laps or big abdominal ops, where extra and longer duration of strength needed.

Often used Vicryl for almost anything where PDS/Monocryl not available, not noticed any diiference for not having it.

Like Vicryl Rapide for more deliacte surgeries such as eyelid mass removals and anal gland removals. seems softer and less irritant, and sites heal quickly so long duration not needed

Don't like and don't use catgut.

Worked in a practice recently that uses cheap Vicryl and PDS imitations, far more reactions and a few wound breakdowns.

Lots of BS talked about suture materials.

RE: Suture materials - what do you use?

PDS mostly here for both, though some here prefer Monocryl for cystotomies. Usually a 2 layer closure for stomachs and single layer for bladder
