I have an owner who says he cannot put drops in his GSD's eyes. I just want to be certain there are no alternatives before I have a conversation with him. These can be surgically placed, last about a year but have to be ordered from the US. A very last resort
Cost very similar to cyclosporin drops for a year and can last 12-18 mths for KCS but up to 4 years in horses. They will supply you and simple to fit.

As I said, I was just checking a very specific question before I had a conversation wit the owner. My last recording with Dr Jahn suggested this at https://audiovet.co.uk/cpd

However please let us know the reason. Even with the most uncooperative dogs we have managed to treat. In 2 years I don't recall an owner who couldn't do this, but ? Is the problem the dog behaviour? Just running away? Aggressive? Owner with osteoarthritis in their hands?

RE: Are there any alternatives to topical treatment for pannus?
SUb-corneal long0acting ciclosporin implants are mentioned on internet, I'm not sure how long these last, how effective they are, or if even available in UK.
Yes I have. We have had a full and frank discussion and they're going to get a trainer and some Primula cheese involved.

RE: Are there any alternatives to topical treatment for pannus?

SUb-corneal long0acting ciclosporin implants are mentioned on internet, I'm not sure how long these last, how effective they are, or if even available in UK.

Oral ciclosporin might or might not be effective to some degree? I found nothing on googling just now to say whether it would or wouldn't.

Some types of eye drops are easier to apply than others, either practically speaking or becuase they don't sting.

Goggles to reduce UV light exposure might or might not be a consideration, though I can't imagine would have much impact.

Tips on how to put drops in that individual dog probably better chance of success than alternatives to drops I would imagine!

RE: Are there any alternatives to topical treatment for pannus?

Hi Sarah - maybe tell him the dog will go blind if her doesn't try harder - tends to concentrate minds a bit.........
