It’s raised and feels diffuse. FNA revealed a spindle cell.
I can find little about these, removal, metastasis, chemo.
My feeling is locally diffuse, tough to remove

RE: How would you treat a spindle cell tumour in a cat?

Although I would prefer to move forwards on histo rather than FNAB I would assume it will behave like other feline soft tissue sarcoma:

Slow to met

removal requires wide margins but the deep margin here may be the problem

poor response to chemo

A CT or MRI is recommended to see if margins might be achievable

RE: How would you treat a spindle cell tumour in a cat?

I am interested to hear how this goes. I actually own an 8 yr old cat with one on her shoulder removed in July, as a previously slow growing cystic then firm mass suddenly got necrotic, oozing centre. As I am not in clinical prac at the moment my local vet practice operated to excise, but although they said they had gone for wide margins (as so much loose skin on my ex-fat cat) histo came back as only 3mm clear margins. So waiting with bated breath. Finances didnt allow FNA before and won't allow anything fancy since.

RE: Spindle cell tumours in cars

If they're close to the cylinder head gasket then it's not good news.

Quite a few different soft tissue sarcomas affect the head, limbs, necks of cats.

Any potential sarcoma in cats I regard as locally malignant in that a) they will invade neighbouring tissue; b) normally be very difficult to curatively remove; c) will often recur. Obtaining histology important for prognosis but unless you think it might be a fibrosarc then remove as much as you can or leave. I rarely see the point in incisional biopsy, and they seem more at risk of breaking down.

RE: Spindle cell tumours in cars

[deleted]
