A very common problem about which we seem to know next to nothing!

If covid has showed us anything it is the dogma that you can't give corticosteroids to animals with viral diseases is not correct.

For all cases of haemorrhagic diarrhoea they get c/st, and very rarely abx. There is evidence out there that abx make no difference to recovery times, and may prolong diarrhoea due to changes in the microbiome.

RE: What are people's experiences with ACDS?

Thanks Glen

They typically present with HGE, prolonged clotting times, elevated ALT, haemoconcentration and are often presented in hypovolaemic shock, depending on severity.

If you put a probe on them you will typically find a gall bladder halo sign (gall bladder wall oedema) and often there is haemorrhagic free abdominal free fluid.

Not all AHDS/HGE episodes are canine anaphylaxis, but certainly some are. Not all episodes of canine anaphylaxis have HGE, but they usually have some GI signs.

I think (although you'd be the better judge), that although we have a bit of a way to go in terms of getting more people to chip in, the quality of the discussions is higher and more focussed.

RE: What are people's experiences with ACDS?

Sorry

I give virtually any dog I treat for V&D maropitant and dexamethasone and fine they bounce back much faster than when not.

RE: ACDS

Alistair Graham-Evans - What is the question here?!
