&lt;p&gt;vet here currently uses 5-0 monocryl with similar needle, but undyed, and would prefer I order a dyed version.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I was told, and it seems believable, that the resorbable materials 5/0 and finer are used by plastic surgeons, and they don&amp;#39;t want dyed material because their patients object to this wriggly coloured line underneath their wound.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Of course, whatever the dealers say, there are few (any?) suture materials actually designed for veterinary use. &lt;p&gt;Sometimes 4/0 Monocryl if I want a bit of extra beef &amp;ndash; obvious examples would be maxillectomies and mandibulectomies.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Vicryl is supposed to be inferior because of being braided therefore capillary. I have never noted any serious adverse effect in real life from it&amp;#39;s being capillary. It&amp;#39;s easier to manipulate and knot, and I can see it.&amp;nbsp; I&amp;#39;d use 6/0 Monocryl, but I know I would always lose the free end.&amp;nbsp; I think I&amp;#39;ve identified a Monocryl equivalent that&amp;#39;s dyed and I may order some of that in 6/0.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The needle is important.&amp;nbsp; Three-eighths circle &lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;reverse cutting &lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;is best. 11mm for 6/0, 13mm for 5/0,&amp;nbsp; 19mm for 4/0&lt;/p&gt;&lt;div style="clear:both;"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</description></item></channel></rss>
