Is the test helpful in an asymptomatic dog that has already been treated successfully with Ypozane (Tardak back in the day)?

Most dogs over the age of 6 will have some degree of benign hyperplasia and you would anyway only treat symptomatic patients. I don't aspirate only ultrasound as it would make no difference to the patient. I prefer to ultrasound as some prostates get so big that they fall in the abdomen and you can't feel them transrectally. If I see multiple small cysts then it's more likely to be BPH. If I see 2-3 large ones then it's more likely to be surgical and you would want to omentalise it regardless if it's an abscess or a cyst.

RE: Do you have experience of using the Canine Prostate Specific Esterase (CPSE) test?

Enjoyed your use of maths in describing survival times.
Yes most cases will be BPH based on clinical exam - symmetrical, non painful enlargement. Those that are painful, ill, non symmetrical would raise suspicion of other causes. It costs little / nothing to put a scanner on and you’ll normally have an answer almost immediately.

Prostatic washes I haven’t done in forever, prefer to FNA. Yes yes you can seed but if it’s malignant seeding will make the square root of FA to survival time so better to get a good sample than piss about with something that is more likely to be non diagnostic.
