Similar appearance on the left side around 304

RE: Mandibular labial bone swelling 404

Interesting. I can honestly say I rarely, if ever have seen it around the mandibular canines- hence why I posted. And I look at a LOT of cats mouths!!!

RE: Mandibular labial bone swelling 404

This paper describes the condition and interestingly in this population it was slightly more commonly seen in mandibular than maxillary canines, although I think it is less obvious in the mandibular teeth.

RE: Mandibular labial bone swelling 404

Thanks Evelyn. I've just never seen it around the mandibular canines so just wondered if it signified something unusual that I should be aware of! No mobility whatsoever, so I am not fretting!

RE: Mandibular labial bone swelling 404

Hmm. I can't tell an awful lot from the photos, to be honest. However.

My best guess is that this is a similar sort of process as that which leads to the buccal bone expansion. Not well understood but probably chronic very low-grade inflammation.

How old is the cat? Is the tooth mobile at all?

I too would want to radiograph, and probe while under GA (we might find there's quite a deep probing depth on the palatal side). But if the owner doesn't want to I wouldn't fret.
