Great talk at LVS by Charlotte Dawson eluded to another type of KCS, where the schirmer is 'normal'. It's not in the notes, but I seem to recall it was a lack of lipid component?

Remend not available presently here. ANy second favourite brand?

Well, Rob has beaten me to it, but normally you type the "at" symbol and then start typing the name of the person you want to mention. A drop down list appears. Sometimes the name of the person you want isnt there. Yours for instance. In that case, visit their profile page, look at the website address and the last bit is their username. Try typing that after the 'at' symbol. Works for me Neil Wheadon

RE: KCS in dogs - Is there another type?

So quantitative versus qualitative. Both exist. Tear film break up time using fluorescein is helpful but subjective. Add fluorescein and hold eyelids apart. Shine blue light and look for appearance of darker areas as the rear film breaks up. If greater than 10secs then consider qualitative tear film deficiency.

increased speed of breakdown probably due to poor lipid layer quality

cyclosporine may help but good quality tear replacement eg Remend or other hyaluronic acid based drops is my first line treatment. Can consider paraffin based ointments for overnight (might be why Optimmune works).
