Does anyone have any other recommendations for affordable iodine impreganted sticky, cut-through drapes for cruciates etc?
Tahnks in advance.

RE: iodine impregnated sticky drapes

Hi Dinu. I use iodine drapes from VetLig - they are very good quality and considerably cheaper than normal. There is a small increase in infection risk if you use non-iodine-impregnated adhesive drapes compared to iodine-impregnated. You are as well to use no drape or iodine-impregnated, but adhesive neutral drapes tend to augment bacterial recolonisation of the skin. It might not be appreciated until very large numbers are recorded and likely most of us would not notice day-today.

RE: iodine impregnated sticky drapes

Adhesive when I can get them, otherwise a large equine drape. I used the iodine ones for about 3 years and since I stopped using them I see no difference in post op infections.

RE: iodine impregnated sticky drapes

We only stock the small size ioban. Our surgeon, who uses them, cuts them in half and makes them fit most size legs. We are mostly ortho/neuro so he uses them for cruciates, patella’s, elbows and spines. I’ll have to watch how he makes it go so far next time he puts one on

RE: iodine impregnated sticky drapes

Thanks Nick. the ioban i can get is very expensive (the jorvet ones i used to have were considerably cheaper). it may be the specific ioban size supplied though, so do you know the size or product code (3M) of the one you use?

I'm in N.Ireland so dont have accounts with those suppliers, but on the pioneer vet website it says code

H402 and 34 x 35cm. Do you know if that is standard size and product your surgeons use for eg labrador cruciate or spaniel elbow?

It may be superstition, but I liked the iodine sticky drapes I had and do miss them. It does make logic to me that covering large parts of the skin when I'm holding the leg will have me touch less bacteria to transfer into wound. But then I am a slow surgeon, so may matter more to me than others.

RE: iodine impregnated sticky drapes

Our surgeons use Ioban made by 3M.
