(complaint had been grinding teeth)
presume ddx would be neoplasia/eosinophilic granuloma.
stupidly I did nt biopsy the area as the dental was prolonged

RE: lesion on hard palate

Thank you so much for reading and replying.

I d virtually refused to perform dental work on this cat, as it really needs full mouth radiography etc and more specialist intervention ,but the owner would not agree to referral due to costs and it was booked in for me.

The colleague who saw it last , said it made a awful crunching noise from its teeth, when she examined it ,but it was hard to determine the obvious cause.

Cat is on long term metacam due to severe arthritis (it has had some oral buprenorphine also in the past) .

I have not seen the cat myself since the procedure (as I went on holiday the next day . ) but I don't think it is doing too well.I removed 104 and 309 at the time .

I will re ex the cat soon and recheck the hard palate lesion and can compare pre and post views.

many thanks

What I see is an ulcerated area of unknown duration.

You don't have to rush to another GA for biopsy. You can just sit back and await events for say four to six weeks.

You are right, this could be neoplasia or eosinophilic granuloma, or it could be ulceration from some other cause, and it could be static or worsening or healing.

You say this was incidental – do you mean that your surgical treatment so far has solved the immediate problem, the tooth grinding? Tell us more. What did your "dental" consist of? Did you find and deal with obvious possible causes of the complaint? Has the cat improved since?

Do you think that perhaps the palate lesion was the cause of the complaint? (Pain from that could well be revealed as what the owner might term tooth grinding).

If there are still symptoms, give some Metacam, or, dare I say it, some Medrone. You've got plenty of time. Avoid dry food. Keep checking fom time to time to see if the lesion heals.
