Sorry to hear about the lurgy Arlo, and glad to hear you’re on the mend. The tiredness took a few weeks to go fully for me, as did the headaches!

Thanks Clare. I don't want to tempt fate, but so far at least, this has been very mild. I feel a little bit spaced out, but razor blade throat has receded, as too has the fever, I think. If this is the worst it's going to get, I've got off very lightly. My wife was much sicker for a couple of days. Now on her feet but a bit washed out.

Thanks Bob, and if that is true, I've got off very lightly. Slight cough on Tuesday, fever yesterday, and sore throat today. Meanwhile, my poor old wife has been through the wars. Big fever, covid eye, gastro etc.

Bad luck Arlo - hope things get better quickly - current form of Covid generally seems to be lasting 4-5 days.

At least your house hasn't burnt down.... chap doing some building work for me lost everything last week - just left with the clothes he was wearing.

Thanks Clare Tapsfield-Wright and zoe north and Jill Butterworth Yes, not really much choice, and no way to care for her in such a way that would avoid her getting COVID too …. hard enough to stop my nose dribbling over her food, let alone avoid breathing on her. So I’m fully expecting to have infected her, which is sad because she’s just had nearly two weeks seizure free, and she hasnt had a run that good for some years now (and she’s not on any medication, which just goes to show ….)

Just for fun, My Black land rover's temperature reading at 14.35 today, after spending most of the day in the shade. Not ideal temperature for anyone. Hope you feel better soon Arlo. We still had clients taking dogs for walks this morning and wondering why they were not well

We see one or two every week in summer in emergency practice despite a big public campaign; traditionally BC summers are much hotter and dryer than the UK but with the temperatures you've been having this week i'd say we're about even so expect to see more of this.

I'm having a truly shit time. All started going to pot on Saturday when we got on the EasyJet flight home from a once-in-a lifetime holiday in the South of France.

Queues at Nice Airport were diabolical, and the border police making best efforts to be as unhelpful and obnoxious as possible - I suspect they were getting some pleasure from the fact that new GB passports don't work in their scanning machines, presumably on purpose!

Inexplicably, EasyJet was out of stock of what they optimistically call 'food' on the aircraft. Normally, that would be a blessing, but not when you've been queuing in the terminal building for 3 hours so there was no time to buy anything there.

Get back, and wife goes down with COVID. I was fine, so thinking perhaps I dodged a bullet. But no. Started getting a tickly throat, and now have fever and feel rubbish.

Wife has gone downhill and now has 'Covid eye', which makes her look like she's been in a fight.

Meanwhile, daughter's carers have declined to come in and work, because they have family with their own health problems.

Which puts me in the doomsday situation of being left to care for my daughter alone, with a fever and a gout flare up, in a heatwave.

Oh, and just to cheer me up, a bowel cancer screening test arrived in the post this morning!

As far as dogs in hot cars are concerned, it does happen. I got home and forgot the dog in the car. Thankfully it was hot but not dangerously so. All it takes is a lapse of concentration!

Interesting! A friend has just brought some ewes and lambs and not all of them have cottoned on to the shady areas of the paddock. It seems counterintuitive that they would be cooler with their fleece, but I take you point...
