One of her bitches comes in to season in October, right in the middle of the peak of competitions. Last year she was mated, which wasn't ideal due

RE: Delaying a Season in a Competing Bitch - best options?

I haven't used Delvo in a long time. When we did, the vast majority of bitches came into season around 5-6 months later. A proportion it was much longer. There was one cat that didn't have a season for 2 years after a single injection.

In the situation you describe, I would make sure the breeder understands that you guarantee when the next season will be

RE: Delaying a Season in a Competing Bitch - best options?
I would happily give Delvo. If coming into season when injected they often won't go 6 months, some can take a while to come back into season, but then some bitches are irregular anyway. Know lots of bitches that have successfully bred after Delvo. It's licenced, just expensive. If you want a 4 month delay, then jab as coming into season and cross your fingers.
So would I, following careful discussion with the client, and advising that future breed cannot be guaranteed (With or without the Delvo) and as per data sheet there is a small risk (0.3%) of pyometra.

RE: Delaying a Season in a Competing Bitch - best options?

When we started work 16 years ago the retired vet hated bitch spays so we would give Delvo to bitches every singe day, now we don't use more than a bottle or two per year (in single animals as per data sheet) and see fewer pyos, BUT the population of unspayed non breeding bitches is tiny in comparison.
