The protocol is twice daily injections for a month. Merlinvet very speedy with delivery of Glucantime. Generally we give only once daily for the first week , to make sure no side effects. Then increase to twice daily for 30 days. Use 25 g needle to inject.

As well as allopurinol.

I drew up weekly sets of filled syringes for the last client -as I think the glass vials can break sometimes.(and it was 14 y.o. daughter of a policeman doing the injecting …….she wants to be a vet.)

RE: Leishmania and meglumine antimoniate (Glucantime)

25 mg/kg artesunate daily for 6 days, orally might be an attractive option to consider also.

Each dog respond very, very different. In general, using milteforan once a year for 2 or 3 years or using glucantime very 3-6 months works well for most of them, but you will come across the challenging one who does not seem to respond to anything. Other dogs may carry leishmania with minimal or no symptoms at all, and you only know it after a routine snap test (obviously, in Mediterranean countries)

Some dogs don't cope very well with glucantime. In general, milteforan has better results. However, it seems that glucantime works better after using 1 or 2 courses of milteforan.

Injection can be a bit painful on site, and in large dogs you need to split it in 5ml/site maximum. You will see better results if you are also using allopurinol at the same time, which is quite cheap and oral.

Good luck!

RE: Leishmania and meglumine antimoniate (Glucantime)

Thanks Beats.
