Most of the litter had symptoms but four of six were poorly three of which I saw. The emeprid/ metoclopramide syrup seemed to make a lot of difference and I gave in and treated the whole litter with potentiated amoxicillin and everything cleared up.
This isn't correct. Some xylitol ok (Vet Aquadent, *cough*)

Would also consider steroids. Stimulate appetite, anti-emetic, anti-inflammatory. I'd only worry about immunosuppression if not giving antibiotics, and I am.

I would use dex routinely in dogs with GI upset.

Agree but some do contain xylitol and it is easier to make sure it a NOT a sugar free preparation than checking ingredients.

Steroids - but why give at all?
I keep not understanding where the notion comes from that injectable nsaids are less upsetting for the GI tract than oral ones. Especially as in my experience a lot of vets forget that the standard injectable dose is twice the standard (maintenance) dose orally. GI side effects are primarily caused by the blockage of cox1, whichever way you administer them. As far as I am aware the only nsaid with the suspicion of having a direct effect due to acidity on the stomach's lining is aspirin. Happy to be corrected if there's any evidence for that idea. ;-)

RE: 3 week old puppies with vomiting and diarrhoea

Pyrexia settled to 38.3 and 38.8
