Me too Virginia, I pop the vaccine inside a close pocket and warm it up before injection. Vast majority are then fine. Only snag is if you don’t use it for some reason and remember some hours later….

Get it out of the fridge when the pup arrives and have it in your hand as you go to greet the owner, then as soon as you clap eyes on the pup and think it looks vaccinatable, put the vial in your trouser pocket and by the time you go to draw it up it'll be nicely warmed. I do this with all vaxes including KC.

We're using mostly L4 though we stock a small box of L2. It seems even most breeders with us are ok with the L4 and we can convince most puppy owners that had L2 at the first vaccination it makes sense to do a L4 course. When I worked in Ludlow, they swapped over to L4 very soon after it became available as we had two cases I'm aware of that got lepto bad enough for referral though fully and regularly vaccinated with and eventually got confirmed different strain.

**edit** I think all practices I locumed for the last few years had L4 as a primary but most stocked small amount of L2. **/edit**

I'm sure I'm seeing more pain reactions though usually with a slight delay (few seconds) to the injection and almost only in puppies. I used to report them, but have stopped this a while ago. Probably should start reporting again as it is neither in the nobivac nor canigen data sheet (noah version).

I would tend to agree with this, it appears to be a bit "nippier" than L2, but apparently this is reduced if the vaccine is allowed to warm to room temperature before being given (which I very rarely have time to do!)

L4 side effects run approx double that of L2 apparently. Double almost sod all is still almost sod all.

We keep Eurican L as our default vaccine but we do keep L4 and L2 to match second vaccinations done elsewhere. Only boxes of 10 so no big deal.

Not a fan of L4 because puppies seem to find it a bit uncomfortable but not a deal breaker and I would not report this as an adverse effect but I know some that did/do.

Where I am at the moment, we stock both L2 and L4. L4 is the default and preferred option, but many owners of new puppies insist on L2 based on breeders advice, so take up is about 50-50

As Michael points out, it is such a dreadful disease, so why would you only vaccinate against 2 strains, when you can vaccinate against 4? no brainer.

Across all of my six regular practices I am not aware of a single adverse reaction to L4.

We either buy a single dose from another practice, or we charge the whole box out to the client. But mostly we can persuade them to go for L4.

Lots of clients refuse L4, usually because they have been nobbled by the breeder in advance

We stock L2 for these people but if I had my way I would not - it usually expires before we use all the doses then some other pillock of a breeder asks for it...

Agree with Michael here, we had a terrier die of lepto a couple of weeks ago, missed his booster last year and lived on a farm. Killed rats regularly. We only stock L4.

L2 is still available and we still use it as our routine. We stock L4 for those who have had this previously or who request it.
