We bought our first set of lap spay kit approximately eight years ago and funnelled all of the work to the one site in our multiple branch practice, worried that we may not generate enough work to pay for it.
We have invested in a Gen 11 from Ethicon which allows us to use the excellent Enseal handpieces and also allows use of harmonic scalpels and shears fro normal surgery which are fantastic.

Freelance surgical are a reasonable source of kit.

I bought an operating light via ebay from a seller in India. Cost £700 plus VAT on arrival. Has to be a match for the £2K +units out there.albeit a little rough around the edges.

RE: Laparoscopic equipment

My limited experience:

All my main scopes are Storz. I also have an Eickemayer, a chinese rhynoscope and a couple of Olympus ureteroscopes. I feel that Storz are the best.

Robiplus - their bipolar cutters are the worst thing that ever came our of Storz. We had multiple problems with it, fragile, etc.

Ports: The Storz port is stuck and can't be fully taken apart and cleaned. The 70 pound indian ports from ebay are still going strong. They're not pretty like Storz though.

Storz repair centre - this is a real bummer, everything you send in needs full repairs at a cost similar to the new part. Very expensive.

Diathermy: I don't know. Gima died after less than 2 years, motherboard costs to repair as much as a new unit. Bought an indian one at half price, died as well. Maybe I'm unlucky.

Grabbers, probes, scissors, normal diathermy forceps - I bought cheap and after 3 years they're going strong. I bought them straight from the chinese sellers or ebay (made in india).

Staff already familiar with it. Spares swap between machines. Top quality, if expensive.

Myself, I have bought some kit from Freelance Surgical. It would be a more entry level kit, but seems reasonable quality.
