&lt;p&gt;Especially in the presence of food! Ampicillin is absorbed less&amp;nbsp; efficiciently, iv 30% cf to 70+IIRC&amp;nbsp; !&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I can&amp;#39;t imagine it would make a difference. From memory, ampicillin is not as well absorbed from the gut, hence amoxicillin being the usual preference when treating bacterial infection in the body orally with an aminopenicillin. I guess if aim is to reduce gut bugs only then there is some logic perhaps to choice of ampicillin over amoxicillin, but I expect it is very marginal and theoretical only.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;If it was an old case that I had inherited and the management was stable, then I wouldn&amp;#39;t interfere too much, but would happily switch ampicillin to amoxicillin for convenience if needed.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;div style="clear:both;"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</description></item></channel></rss>
