In humans rarely it can cause a cholestatic hepatitis. I have a 3 year old FN lurcher that has been on amoxy clav for a polypoid cystitis. She also received a brief course

RE: Adverse antibiotic reactions

I've had a couple previously. A westie with an amoxy clav reaction, a cat with a ceohalexin reaction (went spectacularly red!) and a Springer that had some hepatopathy post TMPS.

RE: Adverse antibiotic reactions

Not as you describe but I have had 2 cases in 30 years ( so bugger all) of antibiotic related skin eruptions. in each case the antibiotic at fault was amoxy-clav. One of these cases it was pescribed for a skin disease - which got worse. switched to cefalexin - also pretty much a beta lactam - continued to get worse. Owner went to a homeopath who stopped the antibiotics and did their thing, and the cat got miraculously better .... of course it did!

The other one was more classical and picked up sooner.

Oh and I had one case of IMPA that was likely triggered by a sulpha trimethoprim

And that's it - I consult about 6 hours a day and have done so for the last 25 years - so I doubt very much these things are common
