I've just taken a swab from a pugs nose bridge as he has a nasty infection and it has come back positive to Pseudomonas aeruginosa, sensitive to Gentamicin and Amikacin. I have only found some topical treatments containing Gentamicin

RE: Pseudomonas aeruginosa nose bridge infection

Thanks everyone. We have recommended surgery but the owners are not keen at the moment. Aurimic cream (Miconazole, Polymyxin B, Prednisolone) solved the problem in the past but not this time so that's why I took the swab. They have also been using clorhexidine wipes for a while but doesn't seem to be helping much either. Never used flamazine before but thanks for the suggestion.

RE: Pseudomonas aeruginosa nose bridge infection

Possibly. I was thinking wriggly pug, but diligent use of wipes can give good results in some peoples hands.

RE: Pseudomonas aeruginosa nose bridge infection

Just asking - could you do without the flamazine?

RE: Pseudomonas aeruginosa nose bridge infection

Consider taking the swelling out of the situation with a short course of steroids and using a combination of chlorhexidine wipes twice daily followed by flamazine. Ultimately the fold is the issue and weight loss and/or surgical resection may be needed.

RE: Pseudomonas aeruginosa nose bridge infection

That's my experience too. Pseudomonas is nearly always secondary and if initiating cause is removed it goes away. If the client is resistant to surgical treatment initially, frequent topical antibacterial cleaning of the area of intertriginous dermatitis might keep it at bay till you persuade them to treat the underlying excessive skin folds. Agree that its not advisable to use off label topical treatments which could cause eye problems and probably would only be effective temporarily.

RE: Pseudomonas aeruginosa nose bridge infection

Is this because of a large nasal fold. Pseudomonas infections here often clear if you get air to the area. Chop out the fold and continue broad spectrum ab’s till healed. I’ve had 3-4 of these and they all clear up after sx
