Rio is a 12yo FN cat, who was diagnosed diabetic mid-2019. She stabilised quite quickly on 2iu PZI insulin BID.
Fructosamine levels are below:

If that confirms your suspicious of remission, you can then continue monitoring as you gradually withdraw insulin, to make sure that hyperglycaemia isn’t recurring.

RE: Diabetic remission in a cat

I've seen occasional cats go into remission for a while ( you will usually find owners want to stop injecting, it's a very tying chore for them), warn them they are likely to relapse and arrange to check bloods regularly or if they become symptomatic. I've never stressed about it as there isn't the risk of cataracts as in dogs.

RE: Diabetic remission in a cat

It's not easy when they are challenging patients.

Would it be possible to reduce the dose and get the owner to be vigilant regarding recurrence of symptoms or dipstick urine at home?

If no symptoms and urine negative for glucose then stop insulin?

In the past, I have had ones got hypoglycaemic or we spotted it on home curves and we obviously stopped the insulin straight away. Several became symptomatic again after a few weeks or months.

Might a libre be useful for monitoring trends?
