Wondering if anyone can help me..... I was presented with an Amazon parrot with a split lower beak, and wondering if anyone had advice as to what/how we can do with it? The parrot has BIOP for around 6months as a rehome, history unknown, owner

RE: Parrot with Split Lower Beak

acrylic cement, e.g. technovit? Possibly with additional wire support first? Here's what I think is a nice overview: http://www.cvrioduero.com/web/Articulos/POSTER%20EVDS%202008%20beaks%20birds%20fractures.pdf

Would suspect looking at the time frame prognosis for full return to normal is guarded and if I see that right on the image and it's a split symphysis it's possibly even less good.

RE: Parrot with Split Lower Beak

We had a goose called Orville at home many years ago. He rounded the corner chasing after something and broke his bottom beak across the centre, so it hinged. Fixed that with glue and some kind of car adhesive. Presumably if the cells producing the beak aren't damaged, it will grow out. However it sounds like it won't. In which case guess they have to live with it?
