I've recently had a couple of these come back positive for Feline parvovirus in kittens around 3 months old and either not vaccinated or only had 1st vaccine. They both had ongoing mixed small/large bowel diarrhoea but were otherwise totally

RE: Feline diarrhoea panels
Are these done now?
Most if not all of the vets on here are perfectly competent at treating diarrhoea in cats.

It just tends to be trickier to get resolution than in dogs and owners can get impatient when simple options have been exhausted. Ongoing diarrhoea can be frustrating cases therefore asking others for advice can be beneficial.

RE: Feline diarrhoea panels
Are these done now?
Yes Anthony, I’m pretty sure no one sends off faeces for analysis without first trying simple dietary manipulation, probiotics etc. If you notice in the opening post, the diarrhoea was described as “ongoing”.

RE: Feline diarrhoea panels

Hi Kara

As far as I am aware the PCR tests detect genetic material of pathogens in the faeces not antibodies to said pathogens. However that's not to say you don't get false positives and also doesn't mean that is the cause of the diarrhoea- but I would suggest speaking to the lab and don't take my word for it!

RE: Feline diarrhoea panels

I am expecting howls of abuse and put-downs, but pretty well all of ours were straight dietary sensitivities ie they responded to simple but draconian diet trials.

These were in cats otherwise healthy and without much weight loss.

Are these done now?
