Does anyone recognise this presentation? Two 6-9 month old lakeland crosses likely to be related handed in together to a resue shelter. They have been in the shelter for just over a week. The lesions were present when they were handed

RE: 2 related young dogs nasal erosion and keratitis

Hi Julia,

This looks like an interesting case, and I suppose I would be considering diseases that might cause a vasculitis. When I see two affected patients from the same household I tend to consider genetics, nutrition and infectious components. So all of these might be on the cards here as an underlying cause. The combination here might also make me think about Distemper. - what's the vaccination status and is there any other history that could be compatible with this or another infectious cause like adenoviruses? A dermatologists input might be reasonable here as well.

I would wonder about a biopsy of the nasal planum as the most obvious location to sample. With the haematuria - is your feel that this is true haematuria, or could it come from cutaneous involvement in that area? Are any other mucocutaneous junctions affected?

If I could make a cheeky suggestion - VetCT offers a remote consulting service for cases like this, and I believe you can still currently gain some credits for a free consultation when you download and use our new App, and these dogs might be a useful way to use credits. We have a team of Internal Medicine Specialists available as well as a range of other disciplines including Dermatology - so if that is a helpful service for you that might allow us to brainstorm these guys that might help. Instant callback, text chat and written reports all available depending upon what works best for you.

Hope that gives you some options!

Best Wishes,
